I'm interested in adding a tabletop edge detection so that skoobot doesn't fall off the table that it's running around on. I'm asuming that's not built in?
I was initially thinking of IR leds around the base, not sure if that's the best way to go?

I could maybe try and figure it out and pick out some parts, these combo tx and rx might work. I have played with them before:

I think adding the IR led's and targets are possible. They could be added on with maybe glue and running wires to unused pins on the microcontroller. Or you could sacrifice the microphone pins and jump to those. I could build it in on the mainboard with right angle IR leds and targets, if I can find ones that work that are also small enough, and then be able to route to them.
The idea I wanted to do was a laptop, a webcam and OpenCV. It could also be the Raspberry Pi and the picamera, or even a cellphone. I have a line follower setup and OpenCV working, just have to finish the robot control.
Here is a concept for sumo. I could send you a ring, I have extra, if you can pay for shipping. If your local, I can just hand it to you. There is nice contrast between the ring and edges, good for OpenCV.
